Crisis and Resilience Fund

Funded by the UK Government

The Crisis and Resilience Fund provides support for people and households across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who are experiencing financial hardship or a financial crisis. The fund can provide short-term help when you cannot afford essential living costs. We can also help you access advice and services that may improve your financial situation and help you become more financially resilient. You do not have to face financial difficulties alone. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please contact us and we can talk through your situation. A Crisis Payment may be available if you are experiencing financial hardship or an unexpected financial shock and cannot meet your essential living costs. Depending on your circumstances, support may be available towards things such as:

  • food and essential living costs;
  • essential household items or appliances;
  • urgent utility costs;
  • essential travel costs; and
  • other immediate essential needs.

Support may be provided as a cash payment, voucher, goods or services depending on your circumstances. Every request is considered individually and support is not guaranteed.

Who can get support?

The Crisis and Resilience Fund is for people and households experiencing financial hardship who are unable to meet essential living costs.

This could include, for example, someone who has experienced:

  • a sudden loss of income;
  • an unexpected household emergency;
  • the breakdown of essential household equipment; or
  • another unexpected financial pressure.

Priority may be given to disabled people, people with long-term health conditions, unpaid carers, households with children and people experiencing significant financial hardship.

You do not need to decide for yourself whether your situation is serious enough before contacting us. If you are struggling to meet essential costs, contact us and we can discuss the support available.

What can't the Crisis and Resilience Fund pay for?

The fund is intended to address immediate hardship and essential needs. It would not normally be used for non-essential or discretionary spending or ongoing, long-term financial commitments.

The fund cannot be used for alcohol, tobacco or gambling-related expenses, or for something that should be funded by another statutory service or funding programme.

If the fund is not the right way to address your situation, we may be able to connect you with another service that can help.

Depending on your circumstances, this could include:

  • checking whether you are receiving all the benefits you are entitled to;
  • help to make benefit applications;
  • budgeting and money advice;
  • energy and utility support;
  • help to maximise your income; and
  • referrals to specialist organisations and other services.
